To provide exceptional pre-hospital care and education for the rural communities we serve through the formal cooperation of local governments and dedicated employees.
Coverage Area
Wayland Area EMS provides emergency medical transport for the City of Wayland and the townships of Leighton, Dorr, Salem, Monterey, Hopkins, Wayland, Watson, Martin and Orangeville.
Services
WAEMS is an ALS (Advanced Life Support) emergency transport agency licensed by the State of Michigan. We are staffed 24/7 with two to three ALS-Licensed ambulances and a network of dedicated Medical First Responders.
Medical First Response Personnel and Vehicles are licensed by Wayland Area EMS and are dually-employed with one of the following Fire Departments:

Hopkins Area Fire Department
Leighton Township Fire Department
Martin Township Fire and Rescue
Orangeville Township Fire Department
Salem Township Fire Department
Wayland Fire Department
About Us
Wayland Area EMS began operations in February 1976 after the Archer-Hampel Funeral Home discontinued EMS services due to increased government regulations. WAEMS began as a BLS (Basic Life Support) service and upgraded to ALS (Advanced Life Support) in 1987.

Vital Care Members
WAEMS offers a Vital Care Membership for residents of our service area. A Vital Care Membership covers the cost of any EMS services not covered by insurance.
Education
WAEMS is a licensed facility for EMS Education. We offer a variety of courses including CPR/First Aid, BLS Instructor, and MFR (Medical First Responder) and EMT-Basic.
